Overview

The use of Artificial Intelligence products and services is now no longer a ‘if’; it is now a ‘when’ and ‘how’. Artificial Intelligence is rapidly evolving into a mainstream technology that organisations will seek to use, to improve their business operations and streamline work.

The importance of establishing a proper governance and oversight framework is critical for organisations, private and public, in adopting artificial intelligence (AI) products/services.

It is therefore imperative that ALL organisations, agencies and business, be they Government or Private, retain the confidence and trust of their customers, clients and the public in their ability to protect personal information entrusted to them, by taking every possible step (through policy, process and technology) to ensure that only those who require access to the data and that that data is used legally and ethically.

Learning Outcomes

In this course, participants will learn the following:

Understanding what is and what constitutes a sound Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
Understand the principles of an AI Policy
How to develop and implement a suitable AI Policy approach
How to develop and implement suitable Governance, oversight, and audit approaches to Artificial Intelligence

Special Highlight: Participants will develop their own AI Policy framework during this training. An AI policy template will be provided to assist participants in the development of their workplace AI Policy.

Who Should Attend

This course is about designing and implementing the Governance and oversight of implementing an Artificial Intelligence (AI) product or service into an organisation, through a policy and process approach.

Senior leaders who have the responsibility for and are the accountable authorities for the planning, selection, assessment and implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within their organisations;
Chief Information Officers, Chief Technology Officers, and Chief Information Security Officers
Those with responsibilities for Oversight, Governance and Audit of Systems.

This session is also designed for those wanting to understand how to implement greater protections through the development and implementation of sound AI Policy and Process Development of and for their data and networks, and learn how to translate the technical impacts of AI Policy to business impacts for non-cyber people.

Preparation

This workshop is highly interactive with group activities and discussions throughout. Come prepared with some current challenges you are facing in your organisation. To participate you’ll need:

Meet Your Facilitator

Philip Wagner

Philip Wagner is a cyber security, leadership educator, trainer, speaker, executive coach and project/program manager, with extensive leadership and project management expertise in both civilian and military environments. He has advised and trained in a wide range of industries from banking and finance, education and training, technology and government at federal and state levels. He is a serving part-time Army Officer.

His previous roles include:

Director, Cyber Security, Information Technology Security Advisor and Senior Cyber Security Advisor, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet
Director of Cyber Security and Deputy Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) with the National Disability Insurance Agency
Senior Project Manager for a major Australian Health provider in developing their Cyber program.
He has written and has had officially endorsed a Commonwealth Government Department’s Artificial Intelligence Policy

This session introduces participants to the creation of an organisation-specific AI Policy and some of the considerations in the setup of the regulatory framework within an organisation.

Considerations: Organisation’s AI regulatory framework

The Data (CIAS) quadrant (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability, Safety)
The Need to Know / Need to Access principles
Key organisational data – what must be protected
Business needs versus Data protection requirements
The biggest issue – Trust
Current best practices in AI Policy
Current organisational challenges:
- Time
- Skilled resources
Human Resource Security:
- Duties, responsibilities and qualifications of key job roles and their relation to AI
- Who will have access to AI, and what will they be able to do
- Onboarding / Before employment
- Access to AI during Employment
- Termination or change of employment

Discussion / Activity -This session is a combination of both theory and practical, and allows participants to either:
- Commence drafting their AI Policy
- Review their current AI Policy

Note: An AI Policy template will be provided to assist participants in developing their AI Policy and IM policies

The FASS Approach to Developing AI Policy
Identify what your key data is that must be protected
Outline of commonly used access models, including:

Policy Sections and Detail

1.Purpose of AI Policy
2.Definition of AI (OECD Definition)
3.Application / Applicability – who does this apply to (permanents, contractors)
4.Authority – issued by authority of the Board/CEO, etc (must be at the top of the organisation)
5.Objectives
6.Scope
7.Process for applying/implementing AI Technology – process for implementing a new AI technology in an organisation
8.Roles and Responsibilities – this includes key position holders
9.AI Security Incident Reporting – process for reporting and investigating misuse of AI within the organisation
